It’s the beginning of 2022 as well as list time to recap 2021! This list is my least favorite movies I watched in 2021, not limited to those that just came out last year. All of the movies on this list are from best to worst.
10. Venom (2018) 78/100
I want to preface this by saying how Venom is one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. I love his comic books and that definitely factors into my feelings of the film.
First off, I love the dynamic between Eddie Brock and Venom. They wasted no time creating a relationship between them and did not even bother fabricating a plot where Eddie thinks Venom is evil for long.
However, the villain is where the real problems lie. Using simply a palette swapped version of Venom is uncreative and feels lazy. The final action scene is boring, similar to its sequel. But the rest of the film is mindless fun and keeps it true to the source material.
9. Red Dot (2021) 77/100
A lot of these films I have already talked about in my Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list, so you can see a more detailed blurb there, but basically this film did not live up to the potential of its premise, however it had some great, suspenseful moments.
8. Black Widow (2021) 77/100
I also talked about this film in the Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list, but in short this film’s best moments were in intimate, slow scenes between the protagonists. The film lacked in its core story and antagonists.
7. Demolition Man (1993) 76/100
Do not get me wrong, I will definitely rewatch this film because I think it’s ridiculous in the best ways. It’s corny, sure, but I thought it had some truly great scenes and Wesley Snipes kills it. However, a lot of the film is too corny to look past, but I didn’t really dislike this film in the long run.
6. Reminiscence (2021) 75/100
This film was talked about in my Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list, but this film suffered from a wholly unlikable protagonist and a sci-fi premise that does not live up to its potential even in the slightest.
5. Cry Macho (2021) 70/100
This also appears in the Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list. I thought this film very much suffers from Clint Eastwood trying to hard to make himself look great and is extremely forgettable.
4. Free Guy (2021) 68/100
This also appears in the Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list. This is just a mindless movie where you shut your brain off throughout the film, but much of it is very cringe-worthy.
3. Mortal Kombat (2021) 61/100
This also appears in the Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list. This tears apart the source material and adds characters and plot devices that absolutely should not have been added.
2. Without Remorse (2021) 51/100
This also appears in the Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list. I thought this film is largely forgettable, but when it’s not it just makes me roll my eyes in how annoying it is.
1. Halloween Kills (2021) 43/100
This also appears in the Bottom 10 Films of 2021 list. I have never actively been so angry at a film before. It is definitely not the worst I’ve seen, but none have made me angrier. Everything about this film is frustrating for fans of the Halloween franchise.
